The activities that really counted when the chips were down were a very small proportion of all the actions taken to create the achievement. So, in line with the principle, only 20% of actions were worth taking. From then on, I then decided to look very carefully at my actions. From cooking

I have a busy life with many spinning plates. You probably have a busy life, too; most people do these days, but there is busy, and there is BUSY. The funny thing is there was a time in my life when I had only one or two plates, and it usually took the best part of a year to focus on and complete them. Then I would rest for a bit, and the following year it would start again. Yip, it was nice and easy…

"The Pareto principle states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes." I started using this idea, and it transformed my life. I looked at my past achievements and thought about which actions contributed the most to the outcome. Quite frankly, I was shocked.

ONE SMALL STEP to Become a LEADING ACTOR By Brian Timoney

Meet Suzanne Ocean from Texas. Suzanne was formerly one of my Ultimate Acting Programme students who wanted to create her own short film. She aimed to make something that had her artistic fingerprints on it, and she came to me for help. We went through a comprehensive process which started with the question, "What kind of character do you want to play?" It may seem like a broad question, but you would be surprised how quickly the film concept emerges from that. Then, my award-winning scriptwriter gets involved and crafts the whole script. The film is called One Small Step , and Suzanne plays the lead role of Heather. After the writing phase, we started the casting process. We created a casting breakdown and sifted through the submissions, looking for the rest of the cast to complement Suzanne. It's a large job with over 350 submissions. After requesting self-tapes, we created a short list, and we auditioned them in person at Spotlight. We found the actors we were looking for and then switched to production mode. This is when the crew (fourteen in total) need to be secured. This is a crucial phase as the quality of the film very much depends on the quality of the cast and crew. Again, we found the right people and a great filming location.

On October 2nd 2023, we all turned up for the first day of filming, which was a big moment. It had taken about nine months to get to this stage. Suzanne was very excited and had flown in from Texas a few days before. The filming went great. It was very intense and challenging but ultimately very rewarding. The film has just been through the editing process and will be heading for the film festivals soon. Making a film is a big undertaking. It's worth remembering as an actor that a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the project before you turn up and 'action' is called. A lot of people are depending on you to be excellent, so don't let them down. Ensure your ability is top-notch and ready to rumble when the opportunity arises. �

thought he had left it too late. It’s true he wasn’t the usual 21-year old drama student, but that wasn’t a problem; in fact, it was a strength. He had life experience and a burning desire to make it in the profession. I saw this in Damien and was delighted to accept him into the Ultimate Acting Programme . Miss Julie: Acting Rarely Seen On Stage

Last year, I started rehearsing a play called Miss Julie with former Ultimate Acting Programme students.

The reason for this endeavour is to deliver acting that you rarely see on stage. It's different from your run-of-the-mill approach, and the work differs from what you see in most theatres. Why? Because most productions are scared to deliver work that goes against the norms and are fearful of adverse reactions from the public and critics, the problem with this is that everyone ends up playing it rather safe. What I mean by safe is that the productions are rehearsed to deliver

an 'acting-by-numbers nice-to-watch' play. That's not what we are doing. We are taking significant risks regarding what people 'expect' to see when they watch a play. I can't say more than that right now, because I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise of the work when you come and see it. One of the main focus points for our work is to liberate the actor. To allow the actor to use their instrument to express the very subtle and the very extreme without losing any psychological truth. Easier said than done. Watch this space for more details. �
