ONE SMALL STEP to Become a LEADING ACTOR By Brian Timoney

Meet Suzanne Ocean from Texas. Suzanne was formerly one of my Ultimate Acting Programme students who wanted to create her own short film. She aimed to make something that had her artistic fingerprints on it, and she came to me for help. We went through a comprehensive process which started with the question, "What kind of character do you want to play?" It may seem like a broad question, but you would be surprised how quickly the film concept emerges from that. Then, my award-winning scriptwriter gets involved and crafts the whole script. The film is called One Small Step , and Suzanne plays the lead role of Heather. After the writing phase, we started the casting process. We created a casting breakdown and sifted through the submissions, looking for the rest of the cast to complement Suzanne. It's a large job with over 350 submissions. After requesting self-tapes, we created a short list, and we auditioned them in person at Spotlight. We found the actors we were looking for and then switched to production mode. This is when the crew (fourteen in total) need to be secured. This is a crucial phase as the quality of the film very much depends on the quality of the cast and crew. Again, we found the right people and a great filming location.

On October 2nd 2023, we all turned up for the first day of filming, which was a big moment. It had taken about nine months to get to this stage. Suzanne was very excited and had flown in from Texas a few days before. The filming went great. It was very intense and challenging but ultimately very rewarding. The film has just been through the editing process and will be heading for the film festivals soon. Making a film is a big undertaking. It's worth remembering as an actor that a lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the project before you turn up and 'action' is called. A lot of people are depending on you to be excellent, so don't let them down. Ensure your ability is top-notch and ready to rumble when the opportunity arises. �
