After a 20-year career as a head golf professional and high school basketball coach, Mike Jackson faced a significant dilemma. A severe knee injury threatened his mobility and livelihood. At 50 years

old, unable to walk, he lost his job. His wife, who was expecting their child, also lost her job due to downsizing. “In 2009 and 2010, the injury gave me a lot of problems,” Mike recalled. “I played basketball in college with aspirations to go pro, but in my senior year, I hurt my knee and had reconstructive surgery. Fast forward 20 years, the injury worsened, and I almost lost the leg.” This setback, coupled with his wife’s job loss and an impending new addition to their family, created a perfect storm of financial uncertainty. “None of us had any income, and we had a baby coming,” Mike said. Fortunately, the Jacksons, who live in Cheyenne, Wyoming, had a lot of help from friends and relatives. However, Mike was left wondering how he would support his family going forward.
